About TokyoH2.com
An independent, community-run information portal on Tokyo's hydrogen economy — professional in tone, transparent in sourcing, and clearly separate from official government sites.
Mission
Tokyo is the world's most advanced large-scale hydrogen demonstration. Yet most of what happens there is published in Japanese, scattered across government PDFs and company releases. TokyoH2.com exists to close that gap: a single, English-language, professionally maintained reference for international readers — policymakers, journalists, analysts, students and businesses — who want to understand how Tokyo is building a hydrogen society.
We aim for official-grade reliability: content is written like a reference work, figures are dated and attributed, and ambiguity is flagged rather than papered over.
What we cover
- Hydrogen refueling infrastructure — operators, station types, regional coverage.
- Hydrogen mobility — fuel cell buses, trucks, taxis, port equipment, vessels.
- Deployment projects — ENE-FARM, district hydrogen supply, green hydrogen production.
- Policy and strategy — the Tokyo Hydrogen Vision and its link to Japan's national strategy.
- Company directory — the firms building Tokyo's hydrogen supply chain.
- News — verified, sourced updates.
Information sources & accuracy
Our primary sources are official and first-party documents:
- Tokyo Metropolitan Government publications, including the English summary “Efforts to Expand and Promote the Use of Hydrogen Energy” (June 2025) and the Tokyo Hydrogen Vision (2022).
- National policy documents from the Agency for Natural Resources and Energy (ANRE) and METI, including the revised Basic Hydrogen Strategy (June 2023).
- Company disclosures — Toyota, Honda, Panasonic, ENEOS, Iwatani, Tokyo Gas, Toshiba and others — linked next to the figures they support.
- Reputable industry and news reporting, clearly attributed.
Our rules: every key statistic is accompanied by a source link and an “as of” date. Where a precise figure cannot be verified, we use a conservative formulation (e.g. “100+”, “40+”) rather than inventing a number. Figures may be revised as official data is updated; check the source link for the latest official value.
How we differ from official sites
Tokyo's official hydrogen websites — tokyoh2.jp (TOKYO H2 Project) and the Tokyo Hydrogen Navigator — are authoritative for policy, subsidies and programs, and readers should treat them as the primary reference. TokyoH2.com differs in three ways:
- Perspective: we are an editorial, not a program site — we explain, compare and contextualize rather than announce programs.
- Audience: we are written for international readers and are English-only (a Japanese edition is planned).
- Independence: we are privately run and take no position on government policy; errors in our pages are corrected transparently, on request.
